You can eat, shop and work at the Merino Mill in Mooresville, NC


Merino Mill – once a mill that made Turkish towels – is now a community hotspot in Mooresville offering shops, offices and food in a historic building.

The factory, which closed in 1999, was to be razed until entrepreneur Michal Bay stepped in to give the space a second life. Now it has redeveloped about 820,000 of the 1.1 million square feet with restaurants, market spaces, art studios and more.

At the Merino Mill, you can grab a pizza with authentic Italian ingredients, dig into a burger rated among North Carolina’s best, and browse antiques while shopping for farm-fresh produce at the weekend farmer’s market. Here’s your guide to what’s available to eat, see, and do in Merino Mill.

Aliño Pizzeria

Made on the fly in wood-fired ovens and on your plate in 90 seconds, Aliño serves an authentic Neapolitan pizza made with the ingredients and know-how of a true Italian pizzeria. The pies are made with San Marzano tomatoes, Italian Caputo flour, extra virgin olive oil and buffalo mozzarella imported from Italy every week.

The Barcelona Burger and the Beer Garden

Known for its “Best Cheeseburger in North Carolina” award from, this burger restaurant serves hand-squeezed burgers with fresh toppings, which pair perfectly with craft beers on tap. Visitors can also enjoy hot dogs, wine, and salad in a space with indoor and outdoor seating.

Coffee defined Coming soon

This Huntersville-based coffee company harvests beans from small farms to be roasted at local Carolina locations such as Hex Coffee, Hatchet, Methodical and more. Each of the drinks from the state-of-the-art espresso bar and roaster is brewed using proper technique and equipment to deliver the perfect drink.

Leandro Manzo Studio

Painter Leandro Manzo, who has contributed to Charlotte’s art scene for more than two decades, has a studio at the Merino Mill. It is open to the public on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 7 p.m., but appointments are recommended.

Main Street Antiques and Design Gallery

Home to more than 350 vendors, this antique mall features vintage items, fine art, clothing, accessories, jewelry, and custom upholstery. The inventory is constantly changing, so visitors can always find something new.

Merino mill market

Featuring vendors such as Bush-N-Vine, Barbee Farms, Copain, Your Mom’s Donuts and more, this weekend farmer’s market features fresh local produce, baked goods, and specialty items. Boutique from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday.

Nest and arbor

The perfect destination for redecorating, this home and design store offers new and refurbished furniture, as well as home decor items and gifts. Products are handpicked from local vendors, and it is also possible to visit the design bar for wallpaper, fabric and design services.
