Ronaldo reportedly wants Federico Chiesa at United: break it down
The international break always gives rise to a rumor or two and this one did not disappoint.
An Italian media report has claimed Cristiano Ronaldo is a big fan of Juventus winger Federico Chiesa and could push United to sign him.
Where do these demands come from?
The reports were released by Calciomercato, a questionable source who also claimed United took an interest in Tanguy Ndombele last month.
Speculation was sparked by comments from agent Ivan Reggiani, who speculated that United could be one of the English clubs willing to pay £ 100million for the winger.
But that’s all it is, speculation. Reggiani is only an intermediary and does not represent Chiesa.
What is Chiesa’s contractual situation?
Federico Chiesa’s situation is a bit complex. He is in the second year of a two-year loan from Fiorentina, with Juventus having a purchase obligation for £ 54million, of which they have already paid £ 10million. [BBC Sport].
It is not known from this point on how long Chiesa will be tied up, but Juventus will undoubtedly be looking to lock him into a long-term deal.
Any interested club would have to offer a substantial fee to convince Juventus to sell.
What is the quality of Chiesa?
Chiesa had the best season of her career last season and it ended in an impressive way.
He scored 15 goals and provided 11 assists last season for Juventus. This season he has two goals so far, including a winner against Chelsea.
Chiesa helped Italy win Euro 2020 by scoring in the semi-finals against Spain.
A Juventus Black And White All Over blog opinion piece at the end of last season called on the club to leave Ronaldo and build around Chiesa.
How did the pair combine?
Chiesa spent last season playing alongside Ronaldo at Juventus. Last season he provided four Serie A assists for the Portuguese star.
The young Italian said he was delighted to have the chance to play with Ronaldo and even copied his celebration.
Chiesa told Sky Italia: “I copied his enthusiasm. It’s very contagious. It’s fantastic to play with a champion of his caliber who has made history.
Where would it fit into United’s plans?
This is the one that is really hard to operate. Even though Ronaldo wants it to happen.
Chiesa, 23, is a winger who can play on both sides and it is now a position where United are overloaded.
Jadon Sancho may be the man Ronaldo is supposed to want with Chiesa, while Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Amad and Anthony Elanga are all broad options that can complement the striker.
Chiesa would cost considerable costs and it would be remiss for United to go for another winger.
The next big expense will have to be in the central midfielder and then possibly a younger striker to help Ronaldo and replace Cavani. There is virtually no chance United will pay big for Chiesa.
