Mikel Arteta gave two reasons to sign ‘elite’ Lautaro Martinez over Tammy Abraham for Arsenal – Chris Davison
AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham is among the players shortlisted by Arsenal technical director Edu ahead of the summer transfer window. football.london understand.
The former Chelsea man was the center of interest for Arsenal last summer before joining Jose Mourinho’s side in the Italian capital, where he scored 24 goals in 46 appearances this season.
Mikel Arteta will be in desperate need of new forwards this summer, with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah set to follow Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out the door once their contracts expire in June. That potentially leaves room for two strikers to arrive, while Folarin Balogun is likely to be third in line or sent on another loan.

As Abraham’s name makes the rounds again, The Arsenal Way’s Tom Canton spoke to Football Italia Richard Room about the 24-year-old and asked which signing of Abraham, Lautaro Martinez and Paulo Dybala he thinks would make the most sense for the Gunners.
“For me, Lautaro Martinez is probably the best of the bunch in the sense of what he can deliver,” Richard started. “I still think he has levels to go, I think he can still get elite, elite. I think Inter would pay to let him go because the irony is Dybala going to Inter seems possible, so Lautaro leaves seems possible.
“So for Arsenal from this situation, for £70m I would take Lautaro over Abraham for fifty for example. I think Lautaro is the best and probably more possible due to the circumstances. However, Dybala is a fun player because he needs confidence, you almost have to center the team around him a bit.
“It was a shame when Ronaldo came to Juventus because he was just starting to produce those special moments, started producing against Barcelona if you remember that brilliant performance and he’s leaving Juventus because he didn’t isn’t that. So Arsenal, would they like to center that forward line around him? I’m not sure.
“So yeah, I think Lautaro would probably be the best bet, especially if Dybala goes to Inter. Because all of a sudden there’s an opportunity and Inter, unfortunately for them, probably still have a summer. more when they find it difficult to retain a major player.”
