Italian Valentino bans fur, focuses on main brand

MILAN, May 18 (Reuters) – Italian luxury group Valentino announced on Tuesday that it will stop using fur from next year and focus on its eponymous main brand, dropping its younger second line from from 2024.

Fashion company controlled by Qatari investment vehicle Mayhoola has been following many other brands in banning fur in recent years, including Prada, Versace, Gucci and Armani, due to increasing customer awareness of animal rights and environmental issues.

The last Valentino collection to include fur will be the fall / winter 2021-22 season, the company said.

Valentino CEO Jacopo Venturini, who joined the Italian group last year when the luxury industry was hit hard by the pandemic, has also decided to stop collections for his young brand REDValentino.

“Focusing on one, and one, brand will better support more organic growth for the House,” the former Gucci executive said in a statement.
