Granovskaia remains firm as Italians pay a heavy price for Chelsea defender
Italian media claim AC Milan have exercised their option to buy Fikayo Tomori and will pay Chelsea the full amount for the defender.
The 23-year-old spent the second half of the 2020-2021 season on loan at the San Siro. He had been sidelined under Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge, playing just 44 minutes of league football before January. But things were very different in Italy, with the England goalkeeper having enjoyed 16 Serie A starts out of 17 appearances.
It clearly impressed as there had been rumors for some time that they wanted to buy it outright. Italian expert Paolo Ziliani commented in March that Tomori has been outclassing Juventus star Matthijs de Ligt.
And it was said that the Blues had made a mistake in letting him go so cheap. Nevertheless, the Rossoneri still tried to lower its price from the agreed valuation of 28 million euros.
But Marina Granovskaia is not known to back down from a fight and held firm on the agreed figure. And it looks like the Stamford Bridge outfit has been successful, as Milan will pay the asking price.
The only concession may be a payment system to pay the amount in installments. This has not been confirmed but Sky Sport Italy suggest that this is the case.
If the deal goes through, it will end Tomori’s 16-year association with West Londoners. Growing up in the club’s youth system, he made his senior debut in 2016.
Loans to Brighton, Hull and Derby followed and the Canadian-born star was never able to command a regular place in Chelsea’s first team. The center-back was selected once by England in 2019, but the lack of playing time has put his international ambitions on the back burner.
A move to Milan could be all he needs to restart this part of his career.
Giroud will not join Tomori in Milan
Thomas Tuchel has now committed his future to Chelsea with a contract until 2024. The German tactician made a superb start to his stay at Bridge, winning the Champions League.
He also guided the Capital team into the top four and will now try to put his own mark on the team. It is expected that there will be several outings out of season.
It seemed that that of Olivier Giroud time may be up as he also had to move to Milan. But the French veteran has now written a one year extension with current employers.
A man who could leave for Milan is Emerson palmieri because the champions of Inter are interested in the left-back.
