Farmhouse in Tuscany, Italy CHEAPER than an apartment in Oxford

It’s not breaking news that buying property in Oxford is an expensive business – but, in fact, it’s actually cheaper to buy a farmhouse in Italy than a flat in the city.

A quick search on Rightmove with a £400,000 budget reveals you can get a two-bedroom flat near Abingdon Road, but the property has no garden and is leasehold with over 900 years left on the lease .

Similarly, for the same amount, you can get a two-bedroom apartment in East Oxford. This property only has the share of a communal garden and is over 100 years old on a lease.

Further afield, £400,000 can get you a three-bedroom semi-detached property in Cowley. However, the agent states that it requires an “update”.

Compared to other parts of the country, you don’t really get what you pay for in Oxford.

An even clearer fact when the same budget can get you a wonderful farmhouse in Tuscany, Italy with a swimming pool and on top of that you will have some extra pocket money left over.

Advertised on, the new three-bedroom farmhouse is located in a small village in the Tuscan hills, surrounded by the rolling countryside for which the area is famous.

La Corte Dei Gelsi is made up of six terraced stone farmhouses, with all the characteristics of Tuscan country houses: beams, bricks, terracotta and surrounded by a large garden.

Three are then three pools, one for each block of two units.

The 140m² corner farmhouse, which you can grab for £352,382 (€415,000), consists of a large living room with a large glass archway which brings in light and the characteristic farmhouse look Tuscany, with an access corridor to the bedroom and a bathroom.

The internal staircase leads from the living room on the upper floor to another spacious room.

The private garden of the property, which extends over 1,100 m², extends behind and in front of the house and from the garden you can reach the swimming pool.
